Excitation Spectrum of the Spin-1/2 Ferromagnetic-Antiferromagnetic Alternating Heisenberg Chain

چکیده
The natural explanation of the excitation spectrum of the spin1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is given from the viewpoint of the spin-1/2 ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic alternating Heisenberg chain. The energy spectrum of the latter is calculated with fixed momentum k by numerical diagonalization of finite size systems. It consists of a branch of propagating triplet pair (triplet wave) and the continuum of multiple triplet waves for weak ferromagnetic coupling. As the ferromagnetic coupling increases, the triplet wave branch is absorbed in the continuum for small k, reproducing the characteristics of the spin-1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain.

Excitation Spectrum of One-Dimensional Spin-1 Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain: Green's Function Approach
The one-dimensional spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain is studied by a Green's function technique. The excitation spectrum is obtained. The dispersion of excitations for an infinite isotropic chain is numerically calculated. At k 0 we obtain a gap 2D which is equal to 0:826J and at k p we obtain D 0:41J, which is in very good agreement with the exact numerical results of White and ...

Ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic (F-AF) alternating Heisenberg chains with S = 1/2 can be regarded as Haldane systems when the ferromagnetic exchange interaction is much stronger than the antiferromagnetic one. That is, an energy gap between the singlet ground state and the triplet excited state is expected at T = 0K. In such a system, spins behave as 1/2 at high T where no short-range order...
متن کاملLow Energy Properties of the Random Spin-1/2 Ferromagnetic-Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain
The low energy properties of the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg chain with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions are studied by means of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and real space renormalization group (RSRG) method for finite chains. The results of the two methods are consistent with each other. The deviation of the gap distribution from that of the random singlet ph...
متن کاملDensity Matrix Renormalization Group Study of the Spin 1/2 Heisenberg Ladder with Antiferromagnetic Legs and Ferromagnetic Rungs
The ground state and low lying excitation of the spin 1/2 Heisenberg ladder with antiferromagnetic leg (J) and ferromagnetic rung (−λJ, λ > 0) interaction is studied by means of the density matrix renormalization group method. It is found that the state remains in the Haldane phase even for small λ ∼ 0.02 suggesting the continuous transition to the gapless phase at λ = 0. The critical behavior ...
متن کاملExact ground states with deconfined gapless excitations for the three-leg spin-1/2 tube.
We consider a spin-1/2 tube (a three-leg ladder with periodic boundary conditions) with a Hamiltonian given by two projection operators-one on the triangles and the other on the square plaquettes on the side of the tube-that can be written in terms of Heisenberg and four-spin ring exchange interactions. We identify 3 phases: (i) for strongly antiferromagnetic exchange on the triangles, an exact...
